QAPA 25th Anniversary Sunset Boat Cruise

[ Back to Main Page ]

You don't have to be queer or Asian to help us celebrate - ALL are welcome!!

Please leave SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 12TH open on your calendars!

Queer Asian Pacific Alliance (www.qapa.org) is chartering a private sunset boat cruise around the Boston Harbor to celebrate its 25 years as the oldest Asian queer organization in the United States. If there is an event this year that you should not miss, this would be the one! ALL ARE WELCOME!!! There will be dinner, dancing, a cash bar, and a nostalgic look at our past quarter century. A cash prize of $100 each will be given to the winners in amateur Drag King and Drag Queen contests - contestants are not expected to perform, and will be judged on the basis of appearance by audience applause, so what do you have to lose?! Also, a Secret Admirer game for singles will be held. Marlon Wallen will emcee the event - you may know him as Spokesmodel for the HIV STOPS WITH ME Campaign! If you've seen Marlon in action before, then you'll know that you're in for an absolutely delightful evening! Tickets are $25 in advance, and $30 on the day of the cruise. Tickets are going fast - over 40 tickets were sold in the first week alone!

Time. Boarding of the boat begins at 4:30pm, and the boat leaves at 5pm SHARP. The boat will not wait for latecomers, so please plan to arrive early. The boat returns to dock at 8pm.

Driving Directions. The boat is located at 60 Rowes Wharf in Boston Harbor. For driving directions, please visit http://www.massbaylines.com/directions.html and for nearby parking, please visit http://www.neaq.org/visit/parking.html

MBTA Directions. The boat is located at 60 Rowes Wharf in Boston Harbor. The closest T stop is Aquarium on the Blue Line. The station exit places you on State street near Atlantic Avenue. Depending on the station exit, you may need to cross Atlantic Avenue to get to the waterfront side. Continue south on Atlantic Avenue and it is a short walk to Rowes Wharf.

Food. Vegetarian dinner options will be available.

Alcohol. The cruise is for all ages. If you wish to drink alcohol and are 21 or over, you must show either a valid Massachusetts Driver's License, a valid Massachusetts Liquor Purchase Identification Card, a valid out-of-state Driver's License (with photograph), or a Passport. Alcoholic beverages will not be sold within 30 minutes before the ship docks.

Boat. The vessel is the Harbor Belle, a beautifully designed replica steamship. This 62' vessel provides an intimate, yet comfortable setting for our 25th Anniversary Celebration. The main deck is indoors and climate controlled, while the upper deck is covered by a canopy. For photos, please visit http://www.massbaylines.com/fleet.html and click on "Harbor Belle."

Inclement Weather. The boat sails rain or shine. In the event of rain, passengers will be comfortable indoors in the main deck, or under the canopy on the upper deck.

Ticket Purchase. Tickets are $25 if purchased before Sunday, and $30 on Sunday. You may purchase your tickets one of three ways:

1) Tickets can no longer be purchased online. If you have previously purchased your tickets online, we will hold your tickets at the boat. Please keep or print out the receipt email.

2) Purchase a ticket from one of the QAPA Steering Committee members directly (Suriya, Albert, HyeJohn, Philip, Long, Johnny). You may also email Long at long@mapforhealth.org or call him at (617) 426-6755 x202.

3) Purchase a ticket at the boat on the day of the cruise for $30. We do NOT recommend this option, since we have a limited number of tickets to sell and are likely to be sold out by that time. If you know that you are going, we strongly recommend you buy your tickets in advance.
